Profile

Bernard graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Law (Honours) and in 1991 was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law in the United Kingdom. He is a member of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple which is one of the four Inns of Court in England.

In 1992, Bernard started practice in Singapore and was employed by M/s Lim & Lim as a civil litigation lawyer. His work focused on litigation relating to guarantees, factoring agreements and other contractual documents. In 1994, he continued his practice at M/s Jumabhoy Leong & Gay in civil litigation including contractual claims, insurance law, securities and family law. In January 1998, Bernard set up his own practice together with Mr Kevin De Souza in a partnership known as M/s De Souza & Sahagar, until in 2001 M/s De Souza & Sahagar merged with Lee Bon Leong & Company.

Currently, Bernard continues to specialise in criminal, general civil, commercial and company law litigation, including arbitration. He is committed to equal access to justice and is continuing his over 15 years’ service as an assigned solicitor with the Legal Aid Bureau and as a Council Member of the Catholic Lawyers Guild.
